// SYSTEMS & INFRASTRUCTURE ARCHITECTURE

MULTI-NODE HOMELAB & HYBRID CLOUD CLUSTER

Tech Stack: Proxmox VE, LXC/Docker Compose, OPNsense, Technitium DNS, Portainer/Dockhand, Nginx Proxy Manager

SITUATION

Running separate self-hosted tools without a cohesive management framework led to scattered resource allocation, network bottlenecks, and single points of failure across local services.

TASK

Design and engineer a high-availability, multi-node hybrid cloud infrastructure to segregate business operations, development sandboxes, media automation, network security, and local identity management.

ACTION

Architected a multi-node Proxmox VE environment featuring dedicated compute nodes (Atlas, Iris, Hera, and Apollo). Implemented containerized LXC environments (infra-gateway, tech-ops, biz-ops, dev-lab, monitor-core, cloud, and home-ops) paired with dedicated virtual machines for OPNsense network routing and Zentyal Active Directory directory services. Configured Technitium DNS, Netbird VPN overlay networking, and VLAN isolation via DD-WRT.

RESULT

Created an isolated enterprise-grade infrastructure capable of hosting dozens of microservices—from remote management (MeshCentral, ITFlow) and security SIEM monitoring (Wazuh, Zabbix) to business systems (Docuseal, OrangeHRM)—with complete network redundancy and centralized asset control.

Developer Commentary: Structuring the cluster across dedicated Greek-deity-named nodes ensured mission-critical networking (Iris) and directory identity (Hera) remain isolated from high-churn development environments (Atlas/dev-lab).
